The Girls

When we moved off the farm property in the Fall 2021, leaving or rehoming our ladies (hens) was not an option. We converted our kid’s tree fort to a chicken coop and before we knew it, the girls were home. Now our suburban backyard is home to 12 laying hens. The ladies live out their days scratching and dusting and enjoying wide open spaces. We even have one girl who puts herself to bed each night by waiting at our patio door. We let her in, and she makes her way to her own “patio apartment” (a large dog crate). There is never a dull moment with them around. The endless entertainment is a staple on our social media; in our Instagram stories and posts.

They’re getting up in age and pretty stingy with laying. But when we have an excess of eggs, you can find them in our online farmer’s market.
